Maidens Nest – Small accommodation in a sandstone house dating from 1900 in Baden-Baden
2 people · One bedroom · One bathroom · 12 m² · Garden with gazebo · House built in 1900 · View of the old town
A gable dating from 1900
Maidens Nest is situated in a house whose year of construction can be seen on the gable: the inscription ‘AD 1900’ is carved into the reddish sandstone, alongside an interlaced monogram. The stone has that warm, slightly pinkish colour that characterises many older buildings in Baden-Baden and the northern Black Forest.
Green trees frame the gable; behind them rises a rock face, and on clear days a blue sky stretches above it. The house does not stand alone on the plain, but is nestled amongst trees and rocks on a hillside.
Twelve square metres for two
The accommodation is deliberately kept small at 12 m² and is designed for a maximum of two guests. It comprises a bedroom and a bathroom. Anyone wishing to explore the town, the thermal baths and the surrounding woods during the day will find a compact place to stay here, beneath an old sandstone gable. Its compact size is ideal for a stay as a couple or on your own, where much of your time is spent outdoors – in the garden, in the old town or on the paths through the hills.
The garden with a gazebo
A metal gazebo stands on a lawn in front of a sandstone wall. Its red roof tapers upwards to form a golden sphere that glows in the sun. Under the roof are two white folding chairs, with potted plants beside them. Here you can sit in the shade, read in the afternoon or round off the day in the fresh air.
Trees grow behind the wall, and wooded hills can be seen in the distance – a glimpse of the landscape on the western edge of the Black Forest, visible from the garden.
View over the old town
From the area around the house, the view stretches out over the rooftops of Baden-Baden. The tower of the Stiftskirche rises up amongst the tiles and gables; a little further on, the green dome of the Friedrichsbad glows. In autumn, the woods on the surrounding hills turn yellow and red, and as the evening sky turns pink, the town and mountains are bathed in soft light.
The collegiate church is one of the city’s oldest buildings; the Friedrichsbad was opened in the 19th century as a Roman-Irish bath and is still in operation today.
Location in Baden-Baden
Baden-Baden lies on the western edge of the Northern Black Forest in the Oos valley and has been renowned for its thermal springs since Roman times. As well as the Friedrichsbad, there are the Caracalla Thermal Baths, the Kurhaus with its casino, the Festspielhaus and the Lichtentaler Allee, which runs alongside the River Oos through the parkland.
Mount Merkur towers above the town, with a funicular railway running up to the summit. Numerous hiking trails lead into the forests of the Black Forest, and the Rhine Valley and Alsace are also easily accessible from here.
